Lost totally rocks!

Okay, do you watch Lost? 'Cause if you don't you are really missing out! This show is totally awesome. Here's the story: a plane crashes on a deserted island, and 42 people survive. No one is coming to look for them because the plane was off course and lost contact with the ground. So basically these people have to fend for themselves. Each episode, we are treated to part of the "back story" on one or two of the characters. These back stories always explain a lot more about the particular character than anyone on the island knows about them. The reason this show totally rocks is because the characters are so ridiculously interesting! Every time you think you've figured out what makes one of them tick, you learn something new that changes everything.

The best character on this show is John Locke. He is just awesome. In a back story, we learned that he used to be a paraplegic in a wheelchair. Somehow, during the crash, he was healed. Now he's like this master hunter/tracker who catches wild boars for everyone to eat. But he's also the most incredibly wise person I've ever seen on television. He always has the perfect thing to say. Like last night, he tells this girl, Shannon (who started out a self-absorbed brat), that everyone gets a new life on the island. Brilliant! She doesn't have to go on being the person she was before (even though her stepbrother is also there and knows her patterns), because she's in a totally new place. She can start a new life. Some of the characters have already figured this out for themselves. Locke is smart enough to know that Shannon needed to hear it from someone else. Then, at the end of the episode, he looks at Walt, the only child on the island, and asks him why he burned the raft they were building. Okay, how did he know this?!? No one else suspected Walt. How? I'll tell you how. John Locke knows everything.

And when Locke confronted Charlie about his drugs, that was sheer brilliance. He took the drugs away, and reminded Charlie that he was going to have to go through withdrawal soon anyway, since there are no more drugs on the island. But rather than just take them away, he said, "You can ask for these back three times. The third time, I will give them to you." So Charlie asks once, then he asks twice. And by the time he comes to Locke the third time, you're not sure what he's going to do. But then you see the brilliant wisdom of John Locke as Charlie takes the bag of drugs and throws them into the fire. How did he know what to do? I'll tell you how. John Locke always knows what to do.

Okay, enough about that. I'm off to start a John Locke fan club.
