What the dr. said...

My surgery is scheduled for June 27. The doctor said usually by the time someone is having as severe symptoms as I described, the only thing to do is remove the gall bladder. He told me to take two weeks off of work, to which I responded, "If only I could!"

This is an outpatient procedure, so I'll be home that night. I'm supposed to stay in bed for the first week. He said I will feel more like getting up the second week, and that's fine, but I will have very little energy and won't be able to do much.

I also have to eat a no-fat diet for a few days, until my liver figures out it supposed to take over the gall bladder's function of digesting fats.

Never fear, though - I will take my computer to bed with me and stay in touch!

  1. Well, I guess the upside is a) it'll all be over soon, and b) you'll be able to "compute" while you're bed-ridden...:/.

I've had friends recover quickly from this surgery...hope that's how it turns out for you, too, Jana...what mom has time to be in bed w/little ones under foot? Will you have help?

I'm on a "no red meat" diet right now...why do hamburgers and steak seem to be calling my name? s i g h. No fat would be just as rough!

Thanks for the update :)...hugs & prayers when you're surgery bound!

  2. Robin - Yes, my parents will be here to help out. Hopefully the boys will understand that they can't crawl all over me like they normally do!

I don't think I could do no red meat for very long! No fat is going to be awful...

  3. Thanks for the update, Jana. It's amazing how one organ (the liver) can take over the function of another (gall bladder).

Well, it's really nice to be waited on hand and foot, but I'm sorry you have to go through surgery first. :~D

    I'll keep you in prayer.

    (((Hugs)))

  4. You will feel so much better once it is out. I wish I could have mine removed, but my US was okay, (just sludge present) so it is not coming out. It can be so very painful at times.

Saying a prayer for a speedy post-op recovery!
