LOST

Take a minute to go back and review my LOST analyses from past years. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Are you back?

Now you're probably wondering why I have not commented on LOST thus far, in its final season, when so many important things are coming to light and the end is only five episodes away.

Short answer? I have no clue. I would, however, like to point out that I was 100% right about something that NO ONE else predicted: I said that, despite his being dead, Charlie would play an integral part in the plot. And this week, boom! It seems that good old Charlie gave Desmond the push he needed to do... whatever it is Widmore is going to have him do. And that will turn out to be the most major event of the series.

Score one for me.

That is all.

Time travel for dummies

Recently, the story line on LOST has become somewhat confusing to some people. (Okay, maybe not so recently for a lot of people). However, I as always am here to help you because this is truly one of the best shows ever and if you're not watching it, you're missing out.

So first, go grab seasons 1-4 and watch them. Then watch season 5 online. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Done yet?

Okay, so this whole time travel thing has people upset. "What happened originally?" they want to know. When Sawyer wasn't there to save Amy, what happened? The answer, of course, is that Sawyer did save Amy. That's the way it happened. If you don't believe me, think about her baby's name: Ethan. Was Ethan around before Sawyer went back in time? Yes. Could Ethan have been around if Amy died? No. Sawyer always showed up to rescue her.

Still confused? I can make this simpler. Don't think of the timeline as a whole, think of each person's life as a timeline. Like this:

Sawyer is born -> Sawyer sees his parents die -> Sawyer grows up to be a con man -> Sawyer goes to Australia, returning on flight 815 -> Sawyer crashes on the island -> Sawyer goes through lots of bad stuff -> Sawyer goes back in time -> Sawyer saves Amy -> Sawyer becomes a member of the Dharma initiative -> etc...

Now Amy:
Amy is part of the Dharma Initiative, married to Paul -> The Others show up and kill Paul -> Sawyer shows up and kills the Others -> Amy goes on to marry Horace -> Amy and Horace have baby Ethan -> etc.

And of course Ethan:
Ethan is born in 1977 -> Ethan leaves the island at some point to become a doctor -> Ethan recruits Juliet and goes back to the island -> Ethan pretends to be a survivor of 815 -> Ethan is found out and kidnaps Claire -> Charlie kills Ethan.

You see, each person's life only flows forward. Even though part of Sawyer's life is lived in 2004 and part of it in 1977, he's still always moving forward through his own personal timeline. I hope I've cleared that up for you all. Go forth and enjoy LOST!

LOST returns!

I have to say, in five years of LOST season premieres, last night's was my favorite. I think what I really liked about it was that for the first time we're really starting to get answers about the island and what's happening on it. I feel like we just got to the top of the first giant hill on a roller coaster, crested the top, and went speeding down into the part where all the fun happens.

Which is not to say there haven't been many important and memorable events so far. But I think by the time season six ends and we pull into the station, we will look back and say that the last two seasons are what really made the show great.

I really want to go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Just know that it's not too late: you can still go rent or buy the first four seasons. I'm telling you, this is one of the greatest shows that has ever been or is likely to be.

English sonnet

Mid-month Every Month at PENSIEVE
Want this button?

This month's poetic form is one of my favorites, the English sonnet. Robin's assignment is to write about love, for Valentine's Day. But it's love with a twist - we're supposed to write about something we love, not someone. So here we go!

You had me from the moment we first met
Such mystery from tragedy begun!
You've never failed to tantalize me yet,
And out of all you are my favorite one.

In fourteen lines I never could explain
The things you do that keep me coming back.
The humor, twists and turns, the joy and pain
Are elements you're never found to lack.

The mysteries you weave are never through,
For just when one is solved a new one starts.
Each week we wait to learn just one thing new
That will make sense of all your many parts.

Oh how I love to watch LOST on tv!
Watch it tonight - you'll come back and thank me!

LOST quiz

This is probably who I would have picked.

I'll be back later with some poetry for PPL!

LOST premiere!

I can't help it, I have to talk about it. I thought the season premiere last night was fantastic! Of course, in typical LOST fashion, they raised more new questions than they answered old ones, but that's why we love it, right?

First of all, the Oceanic Six? So, only six of the survivors make it off the island? Wow, that's sad. Okay, we know Jack and Kate, and now we know Hurley, so who are the other three? At first I thought Claire, but just because she gets in a helicopter doesn't mean she makes it back. And would she count as one person, or would they count her and Aaron as two? We know Sun wants desperately to get off the island, but does that mean Jin gets off, too? And would the six include Others like Juliet, because they weren't on the plane, so would they be referred to as part of a group from the plane? Probably not.

OR... what if "Oceanic Six" refers to the only six people, out of all the survivors, to sue the airline? What if it's just a red herring to keep us guessing? Either way, I think there are actually way more than six people who leave the island. But we know that something goes terribly wrong, something Jack and Hurley are afraid to talk about. And it has to do with John Locke, who may or may not be insane.

Now, about that guy that visits Hurley in the mental hospital: is he Dharma? What information is he trying to get out of Hurley? It seems like, whoever he is, he's just as anxious as Jack to keep Hurley quiet - offering to take him to a "private" facility to get him away from other people. And speaking of Hurley, how did that other guy out on the lawn see Charlie? Weird.

Sawyer's probably going to die. Why else would they have him say he's surviving? And as long as I'm on that subject, doesn't Locke remember that they just had to go over the "security" fence around the barracks? Not very secure, especially when the freighter people have helicopters.

I'm excited to see what else this season reveals, despite the fact that I know I'm going to be screaming "NO!" at the end of it like I am every year. Those writers sure know how to torture us.

Can't wait to get LOST!

LOST premieres tomorrow night! I know, it's just a tv show, but it's quite possibly the best, most well-thought-out, coolest show ever put on prime time. I have re-watched the third season, gone back over any possible holes in my theories, and now I'm ready to be dazzled. Here are some of my predictions for this season:
  • Patchy, a.k.a. Mikhail, will show up alive again. He's already survived a sonic blast and a harpoon through the chest, why not a grenade?
  • Charlie will continue to feature prominently, despite the fact that he, too, is dead.
  • Hurley will be filled with new-found confidence after his role as hero on the beach.
  • Locke will become even crazier (what happened to this character? I feel sorry for him)
  • Jack will continue to be filled with self-righteousness until he realizes he's completely wrong (not much of a prediction really - it's pretty obvious)
  • We will find out about a secret cloning lab on the island - the real reason Mikhail keeps showing up.
Okay, that's enough for now. Can you tell I'm excited? Can you?

LOST finale (Spoiler alert)

Wow! What a finale! It is cruel and inhuman of the producers to make us wait until February of next year. In fact, I considered not watching when I knew it was going to be that long. But curiosity won out and I'm glad.

Now, I know I'm not the only one out there analyzing this show. But I would like to point out that absolutely nothing of my theory from last year has been disproved. If anything, it's been strengthened. Why would Penny be the first face who popped up on the Looking Glass screen? Because her father was part of starting Dharma. The other end of the communicator is in her house. Fits perfectly.

Hubby totally called the "flashbacks" of Jack as "flashforwards" or an alternate universe, one or the other. I was leaning toward alternate universe because he had a beard, and in Star Trek they always had facial hair in alternate universes. Now the question is, was this an actual flash forward, to an unwritten future, or will the show now take place in the present and the flashbacks will be to the island?

Either way, it looks like Ben was telling the truth for once. Though of course no one was going to believe him. I bet his loser dad never read him "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Now, the question for me is, did Ben actually have some sort of glimpse into the future via Jacob, or Desmond-like? Or was he just stating in general that life is better on the island? And why was he willing to let Jack and Juliet go on the submarine if life was going to be so horrible for Jack later?

And why did Jack tell that other doctor to go get his father? Is Jack's father actually alive somewhere on the island and gets rescued with them? Or was Jack just so wasted that he forgot his own father has been dead for four-plus years? It seems unlikely. If Mikhail can keep coming back from the dead, why not Jack's father? I'm just saying.

Whose funeral was unattended? We know it was someone from the island because it's someone Jack and Kate both knew. Would it be Sawyer? I don't know, I think sentimentally Jack would have admitted to being friends with Sawyer. And that would go for anyone else I can think of from the island. Except one. My money is on Ben being the one in that coffin. Think about it. Ben has no family. He certainly has no friends. Who would mourn his passing? No one. And yet Jack would feel drawn to the funeral, perhaps mourning not the man, but the idyllic past he has been trying desperately to reclaim. Of course, we can't say for sure, because Jack said nothing to the deceased (which usually people will do on television).

The other thing that intrigued me was the landing strip Juliet told Sawyer they were building. "For the aliens," hahaha. What is it really for? The Others sure seem to do a lot of contradictory stuff. They don't want anyone to know about the island, but they want to build a landing strip for someone to land there? Huh?

I'm sure I'll watch this a bunch more times before next February, and see things I didn't see last night. These are just my instant reactions to the show. This was the best finale of the first three seasons, hands down. Kudos to the writers!

Thursday

Okay, first of all, I told you so. I told you Locke was getting himself into trouble by trusting Ben. These stupid TV people never listen to me.

Someone visited my blog from the Unilever company the other day, by searching Technorati for mention of a certain weight-loss drink I've been using (which they manufacture). I wonder what they were looking for? A spokesperson perhaps? Someone upon whom to lavish many wonderful gift items? Free samples? Come back! What do want from me? Come back!!

You know, you probably can't tell from my blog posts (snicker, snort), but I've been feeling really scatterbrained recently.

I have to take the boys to the dentist this morning, which means a one-hour-each-way drive and lunch out somewhere. I'm thinking McDonald's. They have diet food, right? Salads. Where they get off charging $4 plus for one, I don't know. Maybe I'll get two side salads. Grr, why does the dentist have to be so far away? Hey, if you're reading this and you know a pediatric dentist who wants to move, give him my email. He/she needs to come here.

Okay, gotta go get ready now.

Sorry - must rant about LOST

You know, I used to love John Locke. He was the best character on the show. Now, I don't know. He scares me. Last night's episode was completely predictable, but that didn't make it any less amazing.

The thing that bugged me about this episode is that Locke wouldn't ask any questions. I'm sorry, but if I were on that island and my mortal enemy suddenly appeared in front of me, I would have to ask questions. Especially when said mortal enemy says things like, "You haven't figured it out yet?" and "Don't you know where we are?"

Sawyer was asking all the right questions, but since Locke was lying to him the whole time, it didn't matter.

Sayid was asking all the right questions because he's smarter than eight other castaways combined.

Kate was asking the right questions because she doesn't like being out of the loop.

Jack was asking the right questions, even though he didn't like the answers.

But Locke? Total babbling fool.

I am glad Sawyer finally got his revenge. And Locke's father definitely got what he deserved. But why? Because Locke is trusting Ben. Again. Because it worked out so well for him last time.

Okay, rant over. At least the two AI contestants who left were the ones who deserved to. Now the final four all need to be named joint winners.

Meanderings

Things on my mind this morning:

So on LOST, we finally know why John Locke was in a wheelchair. I couldn't believe he fell eight stories and lived, but the fact that his own father did it to him, wow. Ben gets credit for some of the funniest lines of the night: "No, we don't have a code for 'There's a man in my closet holding a gun to my daughter's head,' though clearly we should." But he also had the dumbest line of the night. How did it make Locke feel to be pushed out a window by his own father? Um, just peachy and wonderful, I'm sure! And finally, poor Jack! He never liked Locke much to begin with, and I'm guessing the fact that Locke blew up his only means of escape isn't going to do much to cement their friendship.

Next, AI. I have to say for Tuesday's performances, Stephanie really deserved to go. She killed one of my favorite songs. Of course, so did Sanjaya, but no one seems to care about that, so long as he smiles and looks cute. And, much as it pains me to say it, Haley actually deserved to return next week. And finally, it's lucky for Lulu the judges aren't allowed to critique the celebrity guests. Talk about pitchy! And Peter Noone finally corrected Simon: it's NOT a singing competition, it's a voting competition. Thank you, Peter!

Why is it that the dog would rather eat cat food, and the cat likes dog food?

The toddler is learning new words every day now. He's twenty-eight months. My oldest son was doing that at eighteen months. No wonder it seems like he's been a baby forever! It has to have been getting frustrating for him, not being able to communicate. And it still is. Lately, he's been pointing to the center of his left palm. What in the world does that mean? Any suggestions? I would say it's "Give me..." whatever he wants, but he's never done it when there was something in my hands, so I'm stumped. But he does now say: ball, puppy, no, whee, poopy, wheel, whale, hole, and (since he has older brothers) butt.

Okay, I'm done now. Have a great day!
