This week in history marks the anniversary of the famous eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Italy, which buried the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. If you visit this page, there are some great photographs, including a satellite shot of the volcano. I had the opportunity to go to Pompeii once and it is something I will never forget.
As if that weren't enough, this is also the week that Krakatoa exploded, killing 36,000 people. This page has the scoop on that one.
So I'm thinking this is a bad week to plan that trip to the volcano you've been thinking about. And I guess if you already live near one, you're out of luck. (Sandy - you don't live near this one, do you?)
LOL - I think Pompeii is so cool!
